A managed disaster recovery solution on a public cloud #
The Nuabee disaster recovery solution is based on :
- A comprehensive service offering that includes data backup, operational maintenance of the backup solution, backup monitoring and management of the entire project, to ensure its effectiveness and the activation of the DRP when required.
- Use of the Open Telekom Cloud (OTC), for data backup, restart tests and activation of the Disaster Recovery Plan.
The solution comprises :
- A monthly subscription giving the customer access to an external, shared backup space in the OTC Cloud. The capacity of this backup space is determined when the service is subscribed, and can be modified as required.
- Access to a console enabling: monitoring of backups and tests (reboot and DRP), and an overview of the operation of all DRP components.
- Agents installed on the customer’s servers, enabling backup tasks to be carried out, and encrypted data to be sent over the customer’s network connection.
- Additional subscription options: NCA box, NAS SSD, etc.
3 classes of protection #
There are 3 classes of protection:
Servers protected by Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) # |
Backup servers with restart tests in the Cloud # |
Servers in Cloud backup without restart test # |
DRP class: these servers are tested on a regular basis (by default every 6 months) as part of a comprehensive IT back-up test framework, the main aim of which is to check that servers within the PRA perimeter are operating correctly. These DRP tests include network tests and tests to reconnect users to the backup site. | The Backup with Tests class : backups of servers in this class are automatically tested every 6 months (by default) in the OTC Cloud. The startup test is validated by a network port scan and a screenshot of the login page.As an option, and subject to quotation, for servers in this class, full computer backup tests (PRA type on demand) can be carried out. | Outsourced backup class: these are servers whose backup is outsourced to the OTC Cloud. As in the other two classes, backed-up data is encrypted at source, and replicated over 3 availability zones in two different datacenters. |
DRP service architecture #
In a PRA protection context, a dedicated environment is created in the Cloud.
This dedicated environment consists of :
- A Backup Space organized with containers (object storage) specific to each Customer.
- A Backup Space dedicated to the restoration of Customer servers for the technical implementation of the DRP.
- An Atlas Console for modeling Customer IS and administration tools.
TheBackup Space contains all the images of systems and data within the scope of the DRP, obtained by regular backups.
- The customer has his own dedicated storage space (S3 bucket) in the OTC Cloud.
TheBackup Space is empty until it is activated when a disaster occurs or a DRP test is carried out. It is populated using backups and according to instructions stored in the Nuabee administration console.
Geographical coverage #
The Nuabee disaster recovery solution is available by default to companies located in Europe, in mainland France. Other locations can be analyzed.
It is operated on Cloud OTC platforms located in Europe.
