Translated from Figaro : Nuabee, 10 ans d’innovations sur le marché de la Cyber

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, Nuabee, a family business and pioneer in the field of cyber resilience, is celebrating a decade marked by innovation and boldness. Founded by Eric Deronzier, the company found its market by offering business continuity solutions via the cloud, at prices accessible to businesses of all sizes.

When it was founded 10 years ago, Nuabee revolutionized the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) market by opening up Disaster Recovery Plan  (DRP) to SMEs. A DRpn is a set of procedures designed to restore business activity as quickly as possible in the event of an IT incident (cyber-attack, natural disaster, human accident, hardware or software failure, theft, etc.). In short, an essential tool, but one that was financially out of reach for SMEs. “The disaster recovery solutions offered by giants such as IBM and HP were simply out of reach for SMEs,” recalls Eric Deronzier, founder and CEO of Nuabee.

He came up with the idea of offering a cloud-based disaster recovery solution. This would halve or triple the cost of the solution. At the time, the cloud was making its entry into Europe and Nuabee’s proposition was simple: “Only pay for what you use”. At the same time, Eric Deronzier, also a lecturer at French INSA school, was developing a proof of concept with Amazon Web Services (AWS). But he soon realized the limitations imposed by captive solutions such as those offered by the giant. “I believe deeply in open source and in the future of digital sovereignty in Europe”, he explains. That’s why he decided to switch to OpenStack, often dubbed “the Linux of the cloud”, an open-source solution adopted worldwide.

An innovative response to a critical need

The core of Nuabee’s offering is based on unique expertise: the ability to model a company’s IT infrastructure and migrate it to a public cloud in an industrial manner. “This migration, which could take months for other players, can be completed in just a few weeks,” emphasizes Eric Deronzier. This expertise enables Nuabee to offer quotes that are two to three times less expensive than traditional disaster recovery solutions.

Another of Nuabee’s unique features is that it adapts the level of protection according to the sensitivity of the applications. “We have three tiers of protection”, explains Eric Deronzier. For the most critical applications, such as ERP or core business applications, Nuabee offers disaster recovery solutions in just a few hours (4 hours or 8 hours), with regular testing. For less sensitive applications, such as accounting, lighter protection solutions are offered, reducing costs for customers. “This flexibility is very attractive,” he adds.

Coping with rising threats

As climate threats, cyber-terrorism and other risk scenarios continue to multiply, the demand for cyber-resilience solutions continues to grow. “Cyber risks have always existed, but their scale is now much more worrying”, warns Eric Deronzier.

After ten years in business, Nuabee’s balance sheet is more than positive. “Our technical model has proved its robustness”, says its CEO with satisfaction. Today, the company has expanded beyond the SME market, with an ever-increasing number of medium-sized companies attracted by its solutions. To market these solutions, Nuabee now works with major partners such as Orange Business in France and Open Telekom Cloud in Germany.

A promising future

By 2024, Éric Deronzier’s company will have sales of €1.3 million, with annual growth of 40%. Following its successful expansion in France, Nuabee is now targeting the European market, particularly Germany and Switzerland.

The CEO also has new projects under development. “At European level, there are very relevant technical players in many areas: cloud, security, telecoms, but not much in the way of backup, and we thought it was a shame to have to rely on American backup solutions out of spite, given the current issues of European sovereignty,” explains Gabriel Saudin, R&D Manager at Cybee.

To remedy this situation, Éric Deronzier set up Cybee in 2022, a new company specialising in data backup and restoration to the cloud. A first version of the solution is planned for the end of 2024, with operational deployment in 2025.
